The name. The work. The reason.
A technology advisory built around senior-level delivery, and grounded in something more personal than that.
What does ELAL mean?
Two things, both true.
The personal reason
ELAL is the first letter of each of my wife and children's names. I built this company to provide for them. So every time I log in, open my email, or hand over a business card, I think of them.
It keeps me happy. It keeps me grounded. On the days when the work is hard, it's a useful reminder of why it matters.
The practical reason
Four letters. Two syllables. Easy to type, easy to remember, and short enough that you won't mistype the domain.
If you've ever had to spell out a fifteen-character company name over the phone, you'll understand why that mattered.
Twenty years in. Still finding it interesting.
Experience is only useful if it translates into better outcomes for the people you work with.
The network
I have spent over twenty years doing this kind of work. In that time I have built a network of people who genuinely understand technology and know how to align it to business outcomes.
That combination is rarer than it should be. A lot of people understand one or the other. Finding someone who speaks both languages fluently, and can move between the boardroom and the engineering team without losing anything in translation, takes time. I have done that work.
The people
ELAL is also about who I want to work with. Not just clients, but the people alongside me doing the work. I want to be surrounded by people who are brilliant at what they do, take their craft seriously, and still know how to enjoy themselves.
Life is too short for the alternative. Hard work and a bit of fun are not opposites. The best teams I have been part of understood that. That is the kind of practice I am building.
